Frequently Asked Questions
Classes start every Monday. There are always new groups for each level. If it’s a public holiday, classes will start on Tuesday instead of Monday. We recommend you look at the public holiday calendar before booking.
On the first day of school, new students should arrive at 8am at Centro Catalina in order to take an oral and writing test to evaluate their Spanish level. The test takes place from 8am to 8.50am. At 9am classes will begin. In Centro Catalina we guarantee the availability of all levels of classes each week. This ensures a fully customized program for each of our students.
You don’t need to bring anything on your first day of school. In Centro Catalina we will give you: a welcome brochure with useful information about the city and the school, a map, one folder to organize your study material, a notebook and a pen to take notes during your classes. Our material is divided by weekly modules and will be delivered by the teacher every Monday.
Our daily activities program is renewed every week. We offer a variety of activities to spend unforgettable moments, including: a historic tour of the walled city, dance classes (salsa, merengue, bachata, etc.), a bike tour, a horse riding tour, beach volley-ball, local food tasting, meeting with other local students, etc. There are always ways to have fun! These activities occur daily, usually starting at 4 or 5pm.
Yes, the school always has Wi-Fi available. The entire school has WIFI coverage and you can work on your laptop or use one of the computers from the school.

In Centro Catalina, we work in small groups to ensure the best quality of study, and therefore we advise you to book your place as soon as possible. And, for many students who wished to extend their stay at their school, we always do everything possible to ensure they can continue learning Spanish with us.
Both options are great. Our group classes allow you to interact with others students, while in private classes, you can focus on what you really want to improve. If you like both options, we recommend one of our best packages: the combined course (+5) (+10) which allow you to have group classes in the morning and private classes in the afternoon. It’s a great combination that leads to rapid improvement.
Our main recommendation is to stay with a Colombian family. It is an excellent opportunity to learn and practice a language, and also to discover more about the lives of the local people.
All our families have been visited and selected according to a very specific criteria: all live in safe residential areas, at maximum 25min walking from the school, they all have Wi-Fi in the house, they are friendly, out-going and receive students with great joy and care. If you would like more privacy, the other good option is semi-private apartment. They are 20 minutes away walking from the center, the kitchens are fully equipped and the apartments have Wi-Fi. They are two-bedroom apartments, which allow for a semi-private stay (two students maximum per apartment). The apartments are located in front of the beach and the building has a pool.
Centro Catalina organizes your transfer at your arrival in Cartagena or Medellin. Our driver will meet you at the airport arrival with a sign with your name and will take you to your accommodation. This service costs 30 USD.
